Haddie went through her 4 hour open heart surgery extremely well. We are with her now in the NICU. They have a cardiologist standing by while she recovers tonight, as well as a team of nurses who are literally watching her every second.
Everyone keeps saying she has done “perfect” so far. They’re going to remove her breathing tube tomorrow, and they’re keeping her sedated while it remains in place.
We crossed two huge hurdles already: they were able restart her heart after surgery, and when they did, her rhythm was perfect. Apparently, it is possible for the heart to “wake up” with a bad rhythm, in which case a pacemaker could be required. We are thrilled that this threat seems to have mostly passed us.
Over the next few days, we are expecting them to gradually remove her supports, restart feeds, and move her from the cardiac ICU toward going home.
We’ve been very impressed by the level of care she has received. Steph's mom is watching the other seven at home so that we can focus on Haddie.
Thank you all for your prayers. Keep them coming--we have another 5 days of recovery in the hospital.
